School News

Updated Fri, Aug 24th

Students at Rosemary use their Chrome book computers with headphones regularly.  The school provides students with headphones, but we appreciate it when families provide the headphones for their children since headphones for 500 students can be a bit of an expense.  If you send headphones, be sure to put your child's name on them. Please make sure they are wired headphones (no Bluetooth).

Greetings from Rosemary School!  We hope you are having a marvelous summer.  We are very excited about the 2018-19 school year!  This year we will be introducing a new Language Art curriculum that is consistent with our vision as an Expeditionary Learning School.  In addition, we will be rolling out six new habits of character that will shape our renewed focus on character education:  Compassion, Integrity, Reflection, Courage, Leadership, and Excellence.  Join us at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, August 24 for a morning assembly community meeting to kick off of the habits of character.

You will be receiving all of the back-to-school information in an email this year.  Follow the link you were sent and update your information. You will not receive a packet in the regular mail.  Please read everything very carefully.  Of particular importance is the Emergency Contact Form.  We MUST have this form on file for every student so that our office staff can contact parents –in case of an emergency.

Take note of our attached uniform policy:  Navy blue and white shirts with khaki or navy blue pants - no jeans.

School begins promptly at 8:05.  Breakfast is available beginning at 7:30 a.m.  Students who do not eat breakfast are welcome at 7:45 a.m.

We will NOT post class lists.  Class schedules will be given out on August 17 in the school office, to students who present proof of completing the official online forms according to this schedule.

Every day is a learning day!  Whether you are in school or at home or on an adventurous vacation, every moment is an opportunity to learn something new.  Take time each day this summer to read and write.  Seek out new experiences and challenge your brain with new things.

At Rosemary we are very excited about the 2018-19 school year.   Working together we are making Rosemary the safest, most engaging, and most challenging learning place for every one of our students.

As a school in the EL Education network of schools (https://eleducation.org/) , our definition of student achievement combines academic achievement, character, and high quality work.  This year we will be rolling out our new Habits of Character.  Students will be learning about and practicing Compassion, Integrity, Reflection, Courage, Leadership, and Excellence.  Expect to hear a lot about these habits in the year to come.

The school office is closed for the summer, but will open on August 1.

Kindergarten students will recieve a special invitation to come to the school on August 13 for a brief assessment appointment.

The first day of school this year is Wednesday, August 22.  Please join the principal for an informal informational meeting with all parents at 8:15 a.m. on that day.  It will be a great opportunity to learn about our key initiatives for the school year.

Have a great summer!  We look forward to seeing everyone back in August ready to learn and grow and become our best selves.

We are looking forward to working with all our incoming Kinder students. We are eager to meet them and are excited about creating a successful partnership between home and school in order to benefit your child's development. Take time this summer to review a few things with your Kindergartener.  Play number recognition games to help them recognize numbers from 0-10 in random order.  It would also be helpful to practice letter recognition of lower and upper letters; flashcard games are fun for this exercise. Allow your child to practice writing their name. Most importantly, read to them every day. Listening to stories and asking questions about them, cultivates understanding and the love for reading.

Our Kinder Round-Up will be held at Rosemary School on August 13th.

Cornerstone Corner: Sebastian’s Roller Skates

In this month’s ABC book: “Sebastian’s Roller Skates” by Joan de Déu Prats, Sebastian gains confidence while practicing a new physical activity: roller-skating! His newly developed confidence empowers him to speak up and participate more fully in other areas of his life as well. This book shows how physical activity, perseverance, and hard work can bring about great leaps of confidence and skill.

Goals of lesson

  • Help students explore and discover their sparks (interests, dreams, passions, etc.)
  • Reflect upon and identify the support students receive from their peers, family, and community.
  • Learn to change mud thoughts into clear thoughts.
  • Empower students to provide support to their peers, family, and community.

To reinforce this lesson at home, ask your child:

  • What dreams do you have for your future?
  • Which mentors or role models who have a strong purpose in life do you admire? Why?
  • If you could do one thing with your life, what would it be? Why?

Here are some tips that might help your child find a sense of purpose:

  • Cut down on television, computer, and telephone time to give your child time to develop her or his interests.
  • Model having a sense of purpose. Do the things that matter to you.
  • Compare passion lists. Have family members each write down five things they're passionate about and then talk about them.
  • Model using positive self-talk and turn mud thoughts into clear thoughts.
    • “I hate spelling. I never will be able to spell.”-mud thought
    • “Spelling is hard for me, but I can practice and work hard to do better.”- clear thought.
    • When you “catch” kids modeling positive behaviors...Notice, Name it, and Celebrate it!

In addition, kids will see some of the great variety of produce the great San Joaquin Valley grows. Upper-grade students will also receive "funny money" to purchase items of their choice.
