This month’s ABC book: “When Sophie Gets Angry: Really, Really Angry” by Molly Bang tells the story of a young girl who is searching for ways to cope with "big feelings" like anger.
Goals of the lesson:
- To identify, acknowledge and express feelings in safe, positive, healthy ways.
- Stop and think and choose how to react when our emotions feel out of control.
- Be able to switch directions and make positive choices.
- Use peaceful conflict resolution to resolve conflict and the steps to a genuine apology.
To reinforce this lesson at home:
- Help your child identify and acknowledge how they are feeling with words. “You are frowning, is that puzzle frustrating? Can I help?” “You are using a loud, angry voice. Are you mad? Tell me about it.”
- As a caring adult, notice and acknowledge your own feelings. Role model the techniques you use to stay calm and in control. Share your successful strategies with youth.
- Help your child chose safe ways to calm themselves: Do physical activity. Put on music and dance away the anger. Go on a walk or bike ride. Take deep breaths. Count to 10; if still angry, count to 10 again and add deep breaths. Remove yourself from the situation. Take a break in a safe, quiet place. Use art materials such as markers, paint, or other art materials to express feelings.
When you “catch” kids modeling positive behaviors ... Notice, Name it, and Celebrate it!
We are looking forward to meeting our incoming kindergarteners for the next school year 2018-2019. Please make a note of the following dates:
1/17/18 at 8:30 AM
1/19/18 at 9:00 AM
1/23/18 at 10:00 AM
Come visit our exciting campus and review our caring, creative and rigorous curriculum.
Our third grade had a culminating event for our birds/wetlands expedition. Students showed their artwork, writing, and engineering projects in the Multiuse Room.
As a matter of safety, anytime you are visiting our school campus we ask you to stop at the school office first to sign in and receive a visitor badge to wear while on campus. This is a matter of safety for our students and staff. You will notice all of our staff will be wearing badges. Thank you for your cooperation in this safety procedure.
As the Winter Break approaches, parents are getting busier planning memorable events with their children. Remember to set time aside to just sit and relax, grab a book and a cup of hot cocoa and enjoy each others company. Our students will begin Winter Break on Friday, December 22th. They can sleep in that morning. We will see them back in class on January 8th, at 8:00 am.
Rosemary's next School Site Council Meeting is scheduled for December 7th at 3:00 pm. School Site Council Members are welcomed to call with any questions at 408-364-4254.

Take the "Breakfast Challenge" at Rosemary School. Arrive at the cafeteria between 7:20 am and 7:45 am to school and have breakfast with us. The challenge will be from Dec 4th to Dec 19th. Each student who comes in for breakfast will receive a ticket each day. The class with the most tickets will receive a free dress day.
Eating breakfast can improve cognitive performance, test scores and achievement scores in students, especially in younger children. According to a study published in the journal “Archives of Pediatrics and

Adolescent Medicine," students who increased their participation in school breakfast programs had significantly higher math scores than students who skipped or rarely ate breakfast. As an added benefit, the group of students who increased breakfast participation also had decreased rates of tardiness and absences.
"Kindergarteners are learning the importance of friendship and empathy by singing songs.
Please join us on Wednesday, December 20th, from 6:00-7:00 pm in the multi-purpose
room, and enjoy our annual Winter Show!"
