Marshall Lane and Village School recently demonstrated the power of collaboration and compassion by raising an impressive $12,500 for families impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires. Student-led fundraising efforts resulted in donations from students, families, and corporate matching to benefit the American Red Cross.
Inspired by students’ concern for children impacted by the fires, the Village Student Council invited Marshall Lane’s 5th graders to join them in the fundraiser, which took place in early February. By Valentine's Day, the two schools saw that their efforts made a meaningful difference.
"It felt good to work with Marshall Lane to help," shared Roya, Village School Student Council Co-President. Other students expressed similar pride in making a real impact for those in need.
Village School, a small parent-participation school, raised approximately $3,800, while Marshall Lane contributed about $8,700. Teachers and administrators plan to bring both groups together to celebrate their achievement and reflect on their impact.
"This was a great example of collaboration between students across campuses—initiated by students,” said Village School teacher Regina Koepf.
Congratulations to these inspiring young leaders for their kindness, initiative, and teamwork!
