Rosemary fourth grade classes were visited by money management experts from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the worlds largest professional services firm, who taught a lesson on the importance of having a financial plan in order to save for what you want in life.  The Earn Your Future event was facilitated by Playworks.  The PwC volunteers spent the morning recess playing two square and wall ball with students before teaching the one hour lesson in all three of our fourth grade classrooms.  Students were excited about working in groups to make a plan for saving money to buy something they want.

Starting January 2016, new incoming students or those students transitioning from elementary to middle school will no longer be able to provide a personal belief statement or religious exemption for immunizations.

Under the 2015 Senate Bill 277, there is provision for “grandfathering” students who currently have a statement of belief or religious exemption until they reach their next vaccination checkpoint – kindergarten or 7th grade.  A licensed physician can exempt students from immunizations.

For more information about immunization requirements, contact the California Department of Public Health (916) 558-1784 or ask your health care provider.

We are working hard to reduce the number of tardy students each day.

Tardies have been on the rise, and we need your help to make sure your student gets to school by 8:00 am. Research shows that tardiness and school attendance are a major factor for school success.  When students are tardy, they are missing vital learning time and setting the tone for their day.  This is when students are most attentive and doing their best learning.  Students who are tardy also distract the class from learning since they enter the classroom once teaching has begun.  Please help us in making sure your child is on time to school each and every day!

Students watch the robot they programmed.“Straight one…two…three…four. And, left one…two.

Those aren’t dance steps. They’re the instructions that Rosemary first graders were giving teammates as they plotted a course for a small robot across a grid to reach the destination point. While this basic coding activity required students to use logic and sequencing with their math and story-telling skills, the youngsters were simply having fun and were eager for their turn at the controls. The lesson is another example of how Campbell Union School District’s teachers are integrating multiple subjects into hands-on activities that help students gain a deeper understanding of concepts.

In the photo above, Teacher Amanda Haughs works with students who “raced” their robots by solving math equations and programming the answers into the machine. In another activity students planned the moves in a story about their robot’s adventures.

Campbell Union School District redesigned its school and district websites to be easier to use on all types of digital devices AND to make it easier for parents to find the information they seek most often. Your answers to survey will help us reach those expectations and to refine and improve our websites for those who use them. The survey closes October 16th.

The scores are in!  This year’s scores are better thought of as a starting point or baseline for the progress we expect students to make over time. We see these tests as an academic checkup. Similar to class assignments and report cards, they are just one measurement in a set of tools on student progress used to provide you and your child’s teacher(s) with information about your student’s work toward the high goals we have set.

The assessment results indicate our students performed well in some content areas and need more support in other content areas. We expect to see both individual and district student achievement growth in subsequent administrations of the CAASPP assessments.

Once the official results are received, your child’s teacher(s) will use them to help set learning goals for his/her students this year.  A copy of the results will also be sent to you in mid-October.

If you have questions or concerns about the report, please call the school office to arrange a conference with your student’s teacher(s).
