Message from the Superintendent
Dear Rosemary Elementary School Families,
Educating students to their highest potential is job one for all of us in Campbell Union School District. As we work toward successfully completing this school year, we are looking ahead at how to provide the best support to students in the year that begins in August.
I hope you will join me and Mr. Schmaedick in welcoming Rosemary’s next Principal, Mr. Ronald “Hugo” Galvan. As Rosemary School’s new instructional leader, Mr. Galvan is committed to ensuring all students learn at their highest level through the EL Education process.
Mr. Galvan comes to us with 17 years of experience in education. He most recently has been a middle school principal in Hollister, and before that was an elementary principal in North Monterey County Unified School District.
Families will have an opportunity to meet him before the end of the school year.
Mr. Galvan is committed to continuing the great programs and experiences for Rosemary students, staff and families. We believe his leadership will nurture Rosemary School’s work in preparing our future graduates for the challenges of a yet-to-be-defined future.
Sincerely,
Shelly Viramontez, Ed.D., Superintendent
Rosemary School invites you to our Multicultural Festival & Resource Fair. We will be featuring an amazing baile Folklorico by Rosemary students as well as an African drumming & mask making activities. We will also enjoy the performance of Taiko drummers and dragon dancing. Bring the kids and work on some arts and crafts at fair. Resource information will also be provided. We will see you at Rosemary on Friday, May 3rd, from 3:30-6:30 pm.
Last month, Brian Schmaedick announced that he will be retiring from the position of Principal at Rosemary.
As he shared in the letter sent out to the Rosemary community on February 15:
"Rosemary has been a special place since long before I took over as principal in 2012. There is a spirit of dedication here, a spirit of collaboration and of caring that makes it a wonderful place for kids. At Rosemary, leadership is shared. We have strong leaders all over campus and all significant decisions are made by a team or by the whole staff. The responsibility to lead does not sit in the principal’s office alone."
We need our community's help in selecting the best possible person to be our next Principal. You are invited to join Lena Bundtzen, Assistant Superintendent for Rosemary Elementary ‘s New Principal Search Community Input Meeting. You will learn more about the hiring process and provide input on the characteristics and attributes you would like to see in our new Rosemary leader for the 2019-20 school year.

Rosemary School is marching forward as a member of the EL Education network of schools.
EL Education is a 25-year-old organization that grew out of a partnership between Outward Bound USA and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Students at EL Education schools demonstrate craftsmanship by creating work that is accurate and beautiful in conception and execution. Rosemary staff receive extensive professional development in a proven set of research-based core practices that guide our school transformation. More about EL Education. More about Rosemary on youtube. EL Education schools are bound together by an expanded understanding of student achievement that prioritizes not only mastery of grade-level skills and knowledge, but that puts equal importance on the development each student's character - challenging every child to develop into model citizens in our community.
Rosemary School is in the first year of implementing a critically acclaimed Language Arts Curriculum developed by EL Education. The EL Education Curriculum emphasizes rigorous instruction, engaging learning modules at every grade, depth of learning over breadth, and research-proven approaches to foundational skills instruction in reading and writing. The curriculum integrates important habits of scholarship such as collaboration, persistence, and academic courage into each unit and teaches every child to monitor their own progress towards the learning targets. Ask your child what they are studying. Talk to them about the module theme. Check out relevant books with them from the public library and learn with us about weather (Kindergarten) and space (1st grade), fossils and dinosaurs (2nd grade) and frogs (3rd grade), animal defenses (4th grade) and biodiversity (5th grade).
Rosemary School will be closed on November 12 in observance of Veteran's Day. Campbell Union School District schools will be closed Monday, November 12th in observance of Veteran's Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, November 13. The school district's administrative offices will also be closed.

Daylight Saving Time starts on the first Sunday in November. Please adjust your clocks back one hour on November 4th. Students should be at school on Monday well rested since they should be getting an extra hour of sleep.
